Endurance 25LD, 50, & 2-day 100

Competitive Trail 15, 2 day 30, & 40

IAHA Region 8 Endurance & Competitive Trail Championships

Sanctioned by MOTDRA, IAHA & AERC

Endurance riding and competitive trail are timed athletic events for the horse and rider.  These events are open to all breeds of equine (horses, mules and ponies).  The goal is to follow a marked trail in the proper direction as described by the ride management, passing all vet checks and finishing with a sound horse.  The second goal for endurance is to ride the marked trail as quickly as the horse allows.  The second goal for competitive trail under MOTDRA rules is to ride the marked trail in the set target time, to be announced at the ride meeting.

Competitive trail is an excellent sport for the horse and rider to learn how to pace.   The judging system is on the horse condition score like the Best Condition judging for endurance and limited distance.   A complete set of MOTDRA rules will be sent upon request.  No drugs are allowed for either sport.  Any type of tack is permitted and shoes are recommended.  Juniors must wear helmets.

Qualifications & general rules for IAHA Region 8 Championship Endurance & Competitive Trail rides can be found here.

Camping:  Roads to the camp site, & the camp sites themselves will accommodate any size rig. Rocking K campground is in the Kanopolis State Park, all park fees apply and it is your responsibility to stop at the self pay station at the entrance and pay your fee. Display the valid permit at the campsite and on your vehicle. *Due to park renovations there will be no electric available in camp*. Generators are welcome. There is a modern restroom/shower house & a limited amount of water hydrants. Please be considerate of your neighbor, the water is scattered through out camp and not at each campsite.  You will be responsible for cleaning up your camp site, a manure bunker with extra rakes and wheel barrels are provided by our park service .  Trashcans are also scattered through out camp. Do not put manure in the trashcans!   Horses must be secured at designated tie-ups or trailers, pens are allowed.  Do not tie to trees!  Horses are not allowed at the shower building! Dogs on leashes are allowed in camp.

Trails:  The trails loop from Rocking K campground through canyons and trees over high prairie hills with fantastic views.  There are many water crossings and some prairie dog towns along the trail.  There are blacktop crossings on the trails leading in and out of camp, please slow down and cross these roads slowly.

Vet Checks: Competitive trail 15 and 2 day 30 & 40 will have all checks in camp.  Endurance 25 checks will all be in camp. Endurance 50 and 2 day 100 will have one trot by out of camp, the main vet checks will be in camp.

Awards:  There will be completion prizes for all riders who successfully complete the events. There will be IAHA trophies/ribbons for the top 10 Arabian and half-Arabian Region 8 Championships.  Prizes for  AERC top 10, Junior riders, & BC will be awarded.

Location:  Kanopolis State Park is located in north central Kansas only 33 miles south west of Salina.  Camp entrance is north of the dam off of 141.  Venango Park sign is at the corner and a mini mart.  Turn west and following the blacktop to the Y (approximately ½ mile).  Go to the right at the Y, do not follow Venango Park Signs!  Follow this winding blacktop into the State Park, self pay station in near the entrance and park signs will direct you to Rocking K.  Management will add more signs at the corners.
